The bad news is that I skipped over the photos from the big Jacquay visit-- it's
going to take me a while to sort through them. The good news is that this set
from last weekend has some great photos of the kids, and I think that's all
anyone is looking for. So here they are!

Return to a New Kind of Freedom

So many things can happen in a month-- such ups and downs, people, places...
it's impossible to think over and through them, much less write them down.

Sufficed to say, I'll try putting up some photos, and everyone will soon get the
idea. Perhaps the biggest change, for me, is how fast my children are growing
up. It's a wonderful thing when you suspect that they'll grow up, and then all of
a sudden, they're doing it. It encourages me that things I suspect will happen...
do. And our best laid plans aren't neccessarily a bunch of hogs wallop.

The most interesting thing I can add to this entry are some book
recommendations. And even though Oprah beat me to it several years ago, I
have to recommend East of Eden, by John Steinbeck. I guess at the end of this
book I didn't know if Steinbeck was being uplifting or cliche... but I swung
toward uplifting, because I think he's honest. And then I read Cannery Row,
and it was just like a summer day. So I suggest you read it on a summer day.
I think I enjoyed it for its romantic notion of what it is to be American... the
romance of ruins, really-- a kind of faded, worn-out pioneer spirit that I like to
hunt for in artifacts and books. And it's short, so it's worth a try. It's easy.
